Sierra Leone & Cosmic View Rock the House

Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars world music style and Cosmic View‘s neo-jazz rocked the Coach House on Wednesday night, August 11th.

——————————————————-

Sierra Leone Refugee All Stars’  style is a meaningful catchy exciting world music beat. Their band originates from Sierra Leone and plays music world wide, proud that they have escaped the harsh war zone of Sierra Leone. They formed this band in the Refugee camps to keep spirits up and alive.

Cosmic View’s style is a neo-pop Jazz and R & B, with roots from Earth, Wind, and Fire, Alice Coltrane and McCoy Tyner. Sierra Leone and Cosmic View together rocked their styles to a  healthy crowd at San Juan Capistrano’s exciting “Coach House.”

Refugee All Stars started their appearance with a drumline through the crowd. Beating the conga drums, chanting and dancing. The 8 members made their way to the stage to set up and begin to play their music. The members of the band awed the crowd because they not only jammed out their own instrument to make some great sounding music, but they rotated around the stage to different instruments and continued to play on various instuments. Instruments they played included handheld drums, bass guitar, trumpet.

With such stage performance, Refugee All Stars & Cosmic View certainly gave the crowd their money’s worth; so much that they couldn’t resist the ‘ENCORE!!’

CEO of Kumar, Devin S. Parker, was at the performance.

Students can obtain advice and have a dialogue with artists and individuals who are considered the best at what they do.  These professionals have sold millions of records to prove it.  Ernest Straughter says, “This interaction not only offers insights into the recoding and music industry, but it is a service that provides both students and performers of the arts with support that is prerequisite to successful entry into the industry.  More importantly, this kind of exposure and information can only come from the experts in the field.  There is a continuing need to develop new talent and to fill the void when our pioneers pass on.  Exposure at the college level is a key.  However our real desire is to return the blessings of our success to the community.”

Ernest Straughter & Michael McDonald reconnect

Kumar Managament ‘s ‘ Cosmic View ‘ opened for Michael McDonald On Aug 3rd at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano.

Ray & Ernest Straughter (Cosmic View/Kumar Mgmt) with Michael McDonald on Aug 3rd 2010

On Tuesday night, August 3rd, something happened at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano that seems to happen very often in the music business. Many would think that the music business is so large that how could somebody keep track of it all, let alone remember people, places, and all those songs out there. But when Michael McDonald showed up to perform his concert to a sold out crowd of 500 people at the cozy and seasoned Coach House, he ran into his opening band, Kumar’s Cosmic View. And with a light of recognition, remembered Ernest Straughter (Cosmic View) from when he was the pianist in Michael McDonald & Patti LaBelle’s hit song from 1986 “On My Own”   < http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KsH63qJlIMM >

Ernest Straughter was the pianist in “On My Own”, and Michael remembered the pianist that he had never met but admired his talent. He also remembered Ernest from an episode of the ‘Tonight show’ with Johnny Carson, where again he recognized his phenomenal talent. Michael hadn’t realized that Ernest and Ray were his openers for this event, but in the small world of the music business, he got a pleasant surprise!

When we asked Kumar Management what they thought of the small world coincidence, they commented : “Music circles are much smaller than you think. Good artists are known, and great artists are sought after.”- Kumar Management

The night’s performance passed smoothly and the packed Coach House grooved to the Neo-jazz of Cosmic View, then enjoyed the classic songs of Michael McDonald.

Kumar Management’s CEO, Devin S. Parker got to hang out behind the scenes and  live the life of a legend for a day. From the sound check, lunch at noon, to tapping out the spots on the stage and mentally preparing for the evening concert. Kumar management is proud of the personal relationship it has with their artists, as well as the involved commitment and interest they are willing to put in.

“We were in a sought after venue and it was a true blessing.” –Kumar Management
